November 2010

November 2010        There are no words to describe how my heart thumped as I sat inside the door of Chili’s in Lafayette, waiting that Saturday for Jabriel to arrive for lunch.  In walked a good looking, good smelling 6 foot tall young man, my heart leapt with me from the bench as I hugged him.  It was a day I had dreamed of for so long.  Later that night Anna and had dinner at Athena where Jabriel served us and visited some more and sent me home with turnip and okra pickles.  I was so happy when he kept asking would I come back again soon.  Tired from all the excitement we stayed an extra night so I could rest in the hotel and left at our leisure on Monday.
It was about 1145am when we entered I10 from exit 100 and we were all packed and ready to enjoy our ride home in the light drizzle.  Around 12 noon near exit 104 a Blue Chevy Truck jumped into my lane and ran us off the road, I lost control of the Tracker and we spun into a guard rail and turned to face the opposite side of the interstate.  Since we were so blessed no other cars were impacted and a witness stop to tell the police what he had seen so we were not at fault.  Mark and I were taken by ambulance to Lafayette General to be checked out and our Tracker was totaled.
Mark’s head was bleeding since he hit the windshield and my chest was hurting.  We were so blessed to have been hurt more, so we spent the better part of November going back and forth to Dr. visits to be checked out and several bottles of pain pills were taken along with some muscle relaxers.  I managed to cook an entire Thanksgiving Dinner despite my seat belt bruises.  Our Christmas present became our new VW Touareg, the safest SUV we could find.
I must say that recovering from the bruises was harder and more painful than having my kidney removed.  Due to the wreck I had to postpone my CT Scans and follow up with Dr. Burgos until the week of December 15.
